SEEN-SCENE-SCREEN

Seen–Scene–Screen will be presented at LumiNoir ART, London, from 22 to 28 August 2026, as Renwei Liu’s solo exhibition exploring how media spectacle reshapes our experience of everyday life.

 

The exhibition follows a man trapped in repetitive routines. Commuting, working, and spending weekends alone, he escapes into dramatic fantasies that transform ordinary situations into crises, conspiracies, and cinematic events.

 

Presented under the title Edited Reality, the exhibition consists of four digital video works. Using a dual-channel format, Liu shifts between mundane reality and imagined scenarios without warning, gradually dissolving the boundary between observation and fantasy.

 

Through references to breaking news, true crime, viral videos, and clickbait culture, the works examine how constant exposure to extraordinary events can make ordinary life feel inadequate. Rather than providing a clear answer, Seen–Scene–Screen asks whether everyday experience has lost its value—or whether contemporary media has changed the way we see it.

About the Artist

Renwei Liu is an artist working primarily with moving images and digital media. His practice explores shifts in perceptual structures and psychological experiences within the contemporary information landscape, with a particular focus on the constantly intertwining relationships between digital media, algorithmic mechanisms and public narratives. Through the use of temporal delay, image replication and sound field structures, she constructs a narrative space that unfolds through loops, echoes and dislocations, gradually transforming the act of viewing into a perception of the mechanisms by which information is generated and disseminated.

 

In his work, surveillance, algorithmic recommendations and mediatised communication frequently emerge as underlying structures. Through constant layering and feedback, image and sound form a continuously reverberating field of perception, placing the individual in a precarious position amidst the flow of information. In this way, Renwei Liu’s work seeks to reveal how digital platforms influence people’s understanding of reality, consensus and the experience of time at a subtle, imperceptible level.
